Suryakumar Yadav's Poor Form Raises Questions for ODI Series and Test Selection

sports News

In a recent turn of events, Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav finds himself out of the Test team after a series of disappointing performances. Meanwhile, his teammate Prithvi Shaw is also grappling with poor form in the ongoing Duleep Trophy tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav's exclusion from the Test team came as a blow to his aspirations of representing India in the longest format of the game. Young talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rituraj Gaikwad were given opportunities in the squad selected for the West Indies tour, leaving Yadav out of the equation. Although he was included in the Duleep Trophy, a first-class tournament, his performance in the first innings was far from

impressive.

Similarly, Prithvi Shaw, who has been struggling to find his rhythm, faced another setback with a lackluster performance in the Duleep Trophy. After a disappointing stint in the IPL 2023, Shaw failed to make a significant impact in the ongoing tournament. Playing for the West Zone, Shaw managed to score only 26 runs off 54 balls before falling victim to left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar.

The West Zone and Central Zone clashed in a semi-final match of the Duleep Trophy, where the West Zone won the toss and chose to bat. The opening pair of Priyank Panchal and Prithvi Shaw started cautiously, but Shaw's innings was cut short by Saurabh Kumar. Panchal,

couldn't contribute significantly and departed after scoring 13 runs.

Yadav's opportunity in the Duleep Trophy didn't yield the desired results either. He could only manage to score 7 runs before being dismissed by fast bowler Shivam Mavi. The concerns surrounding his recent performances raise questions about his position in the team. Sarfaraz Khan, another player under scrutiny, failed to open his account and was bowled by Mavi without scoring a run.

Suryakumar Yadav's struggles have been evident in recent matches. In the Test against Australia, he could only muster 8 runs before being dropped from the team. Even in ODIs, Yadav has failed to leave a lasting impact. With an average of

24.2 in 21 ODI innings, including just one half-century, he needs to deliver exceptional performances in the upcoming series against the West Indies to secure a place in the team for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

As for Prithvi Shaw, his poor form in the Duleep Trophy adds to the concerns surrounding his cricketing career. The talented young opener will need to rediscover his form and consistency to regain his spot in the national team.

With their recent struggles, both Yadav and Shaw face challenges in their respective cricketing journeys. The upcoming matches and tournaments will be crucial for them to prove their worth and reclaim their positions in the Indian cricket setup.
